Traffic chaos

It is an irritating scene to see the crowd of beggars on the Pune’s Traffic signals. As soon as the signals turn red they run on the road to grab a potential “Bakra”. People who don’t want to miss the signals are at a very high speed and they have to apply sudden brakes when they see the tribe running on the road. In case there is an accident then who is responsible? And who will pay for the injuries caused to the beggar? The all-interested passersby will always blame the vehicle driver for the same and probably abuse or even beat him up.

This thing has to be stopped and it’s the responsibility of the traffic police to do so. Instead of legally looting the public they should work for the betterment of the traffic for a change. Is the police department listening?

  • I absolutely agree with u....it is actually quite risky to drive fast at the signals with u never knowing when u'll have the beggars come in front of ur vehicle.

But if we really think over the matter, it is not really possible for the police to do anything about this problem until and unless the government takes steps to set up centres for these people.Otherwise, they'll only keep changing their "begging" territory which will not help solve the problem we are already facing.

So I guess its time our govt. takes some positive steps instead of leaving matters as they are....but the real question lies in whether our govt. is willing to look into the matter. The road conditions of Pune after the rains and the absolute
un-interest of the authorities to do anything about it just intensifies the doubt.

  • Our govt did initiate a proposal tht giving alms will be considered as a crime. But as always it will remain -just- another proposal.

Most of the beggars infact r waiting to dive in front of a vehicle... even the Puneri beggars r smart :)
