The man, the machine.....

Not very long ago Maruti Industries had monopoly in the car market of India which actually made them complacent but the numbers of car manufacturing companies entering the Indian market have shot up. The cut-throat competitions have benefited the customer tremendously because now they have a range of models to choose from and that too at very competitive prices (with easy loan facilities).

This reminds me of a car that Peugeot had introduced a few years ago in the country. The car was actually a piece of junk and was a total failure in other countries. The management thought that they could easily fool the Indian customers and dump their cars in India. But they realized it very soon that the Indian customers are very intelligent and are not less demanding than those anywhere in the world. The result was predictable, the project failed miserably in India.

The important parameters which most of the Indian customers (middle class) consider while purchasing their machine are:-

(In descending order)

1. On road performance.
2. Cost.
3. Styling and Ergonomics.
4. Innovation.
5. Brand.
6. Mileage.
7. Advertisements (Sachins and Shahrukhs do make a difference).
